OSX 10.10 adding support for AMD R9 290x in Mac Pro. Discussion in 'Mac Pro' started by N19h7m4r3, Jun 3, 2014. I also wonder if AMD has some cheesegrater Mac Pros they're testing these drivers on. And we're trying to figure out how to add driver support to OS X for the Sapphire Tri-X R9 290 / Radeon R9 290 to the latest Mac OS X.
Hello, I want to buy a new Graphics Card for my hackintosh. My hackintosh is fully working exspect the graphics. I searched on the internet to find out witch card is good for me. Before I forgot it i am using Clover. The amd r9 290x has a very good price. So will the r9 290x work in yosemite correctly? I only want to use one screen. Is the displayport working perfect?
Because in the future i want to use a 4k screen. I want to use the Card for some gaming on Windows and office, browsing and some unprofessional photoshop and premiere on OS X. And just one more question, witch brand should i buy, or os this not important for os x? Thanks and best regards from Germany Alex. It works out of the box, but doesn't mean that it will work 'perfectly', it totally depends on your system (meaning on rare cases you might get some acceleration issues and stuffs). If you're just using 1 monitor then you'll mostly be fine (unless you want your Mac to recognize your card as 'R9 290X' properly instead of 'AMD 8xxx Graphics'), the DisplayPort seems to always work.
Ati Radeon R9 290x Drivers
The trick is to get it to run with multiple monitors, especially on the newest update 10.10.4, check my other thread in this forum to get the better idea of what I'm talking about. And who knows if 10.11 El Capitan will make it better or worse, so nothing guaranteed, especially when you want to upgrade to multiple monitors in the future to improve your digital workspace. Regarding its price, the R9 290X is indeed now very appealing, but as I see, a lot of people are using nVidia graphics, especially 970/980/980Ti. Those seem to be running fine as well, and if you ever run into trouble (which is highly to occur) a bigger community tends to have your problem solved faster (my question in the other thread is still unanswered due to low number of people who have the same specs I think). As for 290X brands, it's not important, find the cheapest one you can get, unless you care about performance and temps, then the Sapphire 290X Vapor-X is the best. I myself am using the MSI R9 290X Gaming OC (4G4GB version) in CrossFire with Sapphire Tri-X R9 290X 4GB. The Sapphire was much better to me, even when MSI claims to have their cooler 'more advanced'.
R9 290x Driver Update
Hope it helps.
After upgrading to Premiere Pro version 13.0, there may be driver issues, and you may need to upgrade your driver.
Some of the driver issues that you could face are:
- Green, pink, or purple streaks in Premiere Rush and Premiere Pro after importing a file or in the exported file. For more information on fixing this error, see Green and pink video in Premiere Pro CC 13.0 or Premiere Rush CC 1.0.
- Renderer option is grayed out when you navigate to File > Project Settings > General.
- Intermittent crash while editing.
- No previews, garbled previews, frame drops, performance issues including slow playback or frame glitches. This article explains what’s needed for using CUDA, Intel, and Apple Metal graphics with the 2019 versions of Premiere Pro (13.0 and higher).
Note:
Adobe strongly recommends updating to Nvidia studio driver 430.86 or later when using Premiere Pro. Drivers prior to this have a known issue which can lead to a crash.
NVIDIA CUDA graphics acceleration requires CUDA 9.2 drivers.
CUDA is not a requirement for running the Adobe video apps, but if you prefer CUDA graphics acceleration, you must have CUDA 9.2 drivers from NVIDIA installed on your system before upgrading to Premiere Pro versions 13.0 and later.
You can run Premiere Pro with the latest GeForce series GPUs or Quadro Series cards.
These drivers are updated regularly so check the NVIDA website to be sure you have the most current version for your GPU.
You can find the latest GPU drivers here:
Updating display driver and CUDA 9.2 driver for MacOS
Here are the requirements for running CUDA 9.2 on macOS:
- Requires macOS 10.13.6 (most recent version of High Sierra).
- A current NVIDIA GPU with at least 4 GB of memory.
- NVIDIA display driver version 387.10.10.10.40.105.
Note:
Mac0S 10.14 (Mojave) does not currently support CUDA.
Make sure you update the device driver before you install the CUDA driver. You can update the device driver from the following locations:
- Display driver: version 387.10.10.10.40.105 (direct download).
- CUDA driver: 130_macos (direct download).
Adobe supports those versions of Windows and macOS that are still actively supported by Microsoft and Apple. For macOS, that typically means the three most recent versions.
That holds true for the latest releases as well. However to realize the performance benefits of Apple’s Metal graphics acceleration, the 2019 version of Premiere Pro needs to run on either macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) or the recently launched 10.14 (Mojave).
You can still run Premiere Pro on macOS 10.12 using OpenCL graphics acceleration, but Metal provides 15-20 percent faster rendering and Adobe recommends it for optimum performance.
The 2019 version of Premiere Pro (version 13.0 and later) requires a recent version of the Intel graphics driver. Adobe Premiere Pro has qualified Intel driver version 100.6286 as a baseline to avoid any stability and performance issues. We recommend updating your Intel drivers to the baseline drivers or above.

100.6286 refers to the last two places of the complete version of the Intel driver (i.e. 24.20.100.6286)
It is recommended that you try to obtain a compatible driver from your PC manufacturer. If a compatible version is not available, Intel makes a generic version available on its website: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27988.
Note:
If your driver is older than 100.6286 and your PC manufacturer does not provide a compatible version, it is recommended that you do not install a version later than 100.6286 from the Intel site. Driver version 100.6444 is a Windows DCH driver which does not install cleanly on top of older, legacy drivers.
Adobe highly recommends making a backup of your system, first. If you have difficulty installing the driver, you may find the following article helpful: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005629.html.
If you are using a system with dual GPUs, then:
- Premiere Pro with Open CL: Premiere Pro first checks for the Intel/AMD driver.
- Premiere Pro with CUDA: Premiere Pro first checks for the NVIDIA driver.
