    In terms of the provisions of the National Road Traffic Act (Act 93 of 1996), all motor vehicles which are operated on South Africa’s public roads must be registered and licenced, and all drivers should be in possession of a valid driving licence. Regulation 32A of the National Road Traffic Regulations requires all persons who wish to transact with the Licencing Authority on the Natis system to provide proof of residence.

    • A valid temporary RSA identity certificate
    • A valid RSA driving licence card
    • A valid RSA identity document, card or certified copy thereof
    • A valid RSA passport
    • Traffic Register Number (TRN)certificate issued by Natis in terms of the National Road Traffic Act provided that the TRN for a private individual must be accompanied by a valid source document in the form of an unexpired Refugee ID (BI-1707), foreign passport, work permit or study permit
    • Certificate of incorporation or name change of a company
    • The founding statement or certificate of the name change of a close corporation
    • A Business Registration Number (BRN) for businesses

    All motor vehicles operating on South Africa’s public roads must be registered and all drivers must have a valid driving licence.

    Motor Vehicle Registration

    Required documents:

    • Acceptable identification (for both buyer and seller)
    • Proof of address
    • Original registration certificate
    • For a brand new vehicle, manufacturer certificate
    • For a second hand vehicle, a completed and signed change of ownership notice (signed by both seller and buyer)

    Prescribed fee: R 180.00

    Motor Vehicle Licencing

    Required documents:

    • Acceptable identification
    • Proof of address
    • Licence renewal notice or in the absence thereof, complete an Application for Renewal of License form (ALV)
    • A roadworthy certificate if the vehicle is a Road Transport Quality System (RTQS) vehicle

    This fee is calculated according to the type and tare weight of the vehicle. A transaction fee of R72.00 is payable for each vehicle licence transaction.

    Permits

    3 days and 21 days permits

    Required documents:

    • Acceptable identification
    • Applicant must complete a Temporary Special Permit (TSP) form
    • Vehicle must be roadworthy to obtain a 21 day permit

    Prescribed fees:
    R252.00 for a temporary permit
    R96.00 for a special permit

    Duplicate Registration Certificate

    Required documents:

    • Acceptable identification
    • Proof of address
    • Only the title holder can apply and must be at the office in person

    Transaction fee: R264.00

    All registered leaners, drivers and companies can register their profiles online at https://online.natis.gov.za. Once registered, you will be able check and download your motor vehicle licence renewal notices currently expiring in the next two months.

    Change of ownership

    Required documents:

    • Acceptable identification for both buyer and seller
    • A completed and signed Notice of Change of Ownership (NCO) form signed by both buyer and seller

    Please note:

    • The seller must hand over the current original registration certificate to the buyer
    • The seller must submit the change of ownership notice to his/her appropriate registering authority within 21 days after the date on which the motor vehicle was sold
    • The buyer must apply for registration of the vehicle to his/her appropriate registering authority on form RLV within 21 days after the date on which the vehicle was purchased/acquired. The application must be accompanied by the current original registration certificate

    For Individuals

    For business relocating within Mogale City

    Procedure for Collection of Driving Licence Card

    A driving licence card can be collected at Mogale City Licensing Office at Counter No. 14 after 30 working days from the date of the application

    If you are unable to collect a driving licence card, you can send someone to collect it on your behalf with the following documents:

    • Acceptable identification or a certified copy thereof (for the applicant and the nominee)
    • A written authorisation stating that you have nominated someone to collect the licence card on your behalf
