Jeep Manual Remove Steering Column Cover
Jan 20, 2018 Later year 2016 and 17's have a collar or flange that prevents the steering column cover from being removed without removing the steering wheel. Dealer Service Instructions for: Safety Recall. 2007 - 2010 (JK) Jeep® Wrangler. The steering column clockspring, steering wheel back cover, and steering column. Recall S33 has been performed, there is a revised removal procedure.
Removal
CAUTION:
Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the
SRS airbag system before servicing (See page RS-1).
HINT:
Use the same procedure for both the RH and LH sides.
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
Wait for at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent the airbag from working.

Jeep Horn & Steering Wheel Removal

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
HORN BUTTON
Removal & Installation
Disconnect negative battery cable. Place wheels in
straight-ahead position. On models with standard steering wheel,
remove horn button retaining screws from rear of steering wheel.On models with sport steering wheel, remove horn button by
pulling button upward. On all models, remove horn internal components.
Place components in order of removal. To install, reverse removal
procedure.
STEERING WHEEL
CAUTION: Some steering wheel shaft nuts have metric threads. Metric threads have an identification groove cut perpendicular to steering wheel splines. Standard threads do not have groove.
Removal & Installation (Grand Wagoneer)
Remove horn button. Disconnect horn wire at steering wheel
switch. Unseat horn wire and spring retainer at the canceling cam
yoke. Remove wire, retainer and spring as an assembly.On vehicles with sport steering wheel, remove receiver
bushing retaining screws. Remove bushing, horn button receiver and
contact plate. On all models, remove steering wheel retaining nut.Mark steering wheel and shaft for reassembly reference.
Using Steering Wheel Puller (J-21232), remove steering wheel. To
install, reverse removal procedure. Align marks made during removal.
Removal & Installation (All Others)
Remove horn button. Remove steering wheel retaining nut. Mark steering wheel and shaft for reassembly reference. Using Steering Wheel Puller (J-21232), remove steering wheel. To install, reverse removal procedure. Align reference marks.
